A Fantastic Opening for Students Sports Meet
On the morning of November 16, a fantastic opening unveiled SCBC’s 9th Students Sports Meet, which would last for two days. A feast for eyes during the opening parade was the marvelous repertoire from the different departments, including Dragon Dances, Lion Dances, Yangge & Waist Drum Dance, Cheerleading, Gymnastic Dance, and the most-heated “Gangnam Style” with “Superman”.
All the foreign students from Japan and South Korea also presented their shows on the parade.
Foreign Teachers Liven up Staff Sports Meet
The 2012 SCBC’s Staff Sports Meet was held on November 15. The administrative and logistic divisions, and teaching departments specially displayed their own creative shows for this year’s opening parade, involving Lion Dances and the most-heated “Gangnam Style”. All the foreign teachers formed their own phalanx in the parade for the first time. Besides the conventional athletic games, some funny events were also included in this year’s meet, such as rope skipping, golf exercise, bowling, basketball shooting, football shooting, and Chinese chess.
Chairman of American Chamber of Commerce Talks about Corporate Culture
On November 15, Mr. Harley Seyedin, chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in South China, visited SCBC and presented a lecture entitled “The Investments and Corporate Culture of American Companies in South China”. In the lecture, Mr. Seyedin made an in-depth analysis of the present employment situation in light of the demographics and the business prospects of foreign enterprises in South China. He also encouraged students to take advantage of the frequent cooperation between international companies and find the most suitable professions for themselves. This was the second time that Mr. Seyedin had visited SCBC. In January 2012, SCBC became a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in South China.
A Delegation from Duquesne University in America Visits SCBC
On November 15, a delegation headed by Anna Harrison from Duquesne University visited SCBC. The two sides had a detailed discussion of the specific issues related to the study programs in Duquesne University for students from SCBC. After the meeting, Anna Harrison presented an introduction to Duquesne University for SCBC students at Room E206.
President of Chonbuk Healthcare Technology University Visits SCBC
On November 14, Park Yong-Seok, president of Chonbuk Healthc Technology University in South Korea, visited SCBC and was welcomed at the Honorary Hall by Mr. Lai Zhili, vice president of SCBC. In the meeting, Mr. Lai gave the guests an introduction to SCBC and the situation of international exchange and cooperation, which has always been a focus of work for the college. Now SCBC has established cooperation with nine Korean institutions of higher learning, enabling all the students of Korean major to study collectively in South Korea.
Foreign Students Enjoy “a Taste of China”
Several days before, 15 foreign students from Japan and South Korea have experienced “a taste of China” by personally making dumplings (jiaozi ) at the college canteen. The activity, designed to help foreign students better understand Chinese traditional recipe culture by doing it themselves, was a part of a whole series of activities of “Experiencing Chinese Culture after Class”. In order to practice their oral Chinese, they chose Mandarin as their “working language” and tried to make it through the whole occasion. Previously, they have already participated in Chinese speaking contest and Chinese movies appreciation.
