Wu Yi Bestowed “Guangzhou Award” for Volunteer Service
 
Wu Yi, a student from SCBC, was bestowed “Guangzhou Award” for Volunteer Services on December 5, when the honoring ceremony of the first “Kapok Award” and “Guangzhou Award” for Volunteer Services in Guangdong was held at Guangzhou Pazhou International Convention and Exhibition Center, together with the Second Guangdong Volunteer/Charity Cultural Festival & Volunteer Services Fair. The “Guangzhou Award”, set up by the Guangzhou municipal people’s government for the first time, is the top honor for Guangzhou volunteer services, and Wu is the only college student among the winners of the title this year.  
 
 
 
A Farewell Party for Prof. Nicholls
 
On December 7, a farewell party was held for Prof. Nicholls from UWE, U.K. at Room C202, as his 10-day short-term exchange at SCBC came to an end. At the party, Prof. Nicholls gave a short speech in summary of his stay at the college and conferred commemorative certificates to his students. 
 
 
 
 
Professor from Busan University of Foreign Studies Visits SCBC
 
On December 7, Prof. Soung Hyang-geun, director of the Korean Language & Education School from Busan University of Foreign Studies in South Korea, headed a delegation to visit SCBC. The two sides discussed several issues related to the mutual exchange and cooperation. Prof. Soung introduced the characteristics of his university and the exchange and cooperation with universities and colleges in China. In order to cultivate practical talents in economy and trade, Busan University of Foreign Studies has set up practice-oriented courses like Korean for Economy and Trade, Business Korean, etc..
 
 
 
 
SCBC Student Wins Third Prize in “FLTRP Cup” English Speaking Contest
 
From December 3 to December 8, the 10th “FLTRP Cup” English Speaking Contest was held in Beijing Foreign Studies University. Zhu Jing, a student from the Department of English Language and Culture of SCBC, won a Third Prize in the contest, where 93 contestants from 34 universities and colleges all over China were competing for the final honor. (“FLTRP Cup”, a national English speaking contest sponsored by Beijing Foreign Studies University)
 
 
 
SCBC Holds Symposium for Chinese Young & Middle-aged Teachers of Korean
 
Sponsored by China Korean Language Teaching and Research Society and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, the teaching symposium for Chinese teachers of the Korean language was held by SCBC on December 8. More than 60 experts and scholars from 28 Chinese universities and colleges and several institutions of higher learning in South Korea participated in the symposium, including Peking University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Shandong University, Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in China, and Kookmin University, Catholic University, Daegu University, Seoul National University in South Korea. This symposium was of the highest level of its kind, as one of the sponsors, China Korean Language Teaching and Research Society, is the only academic association dedicated to Korean language teaching. After presenting their papers, the attendees engaged themselves in group discussions.
 
 
 
 
 English Space Time: Merry Christmas
 
On December 11, the fifth section of English Space Time for this semester was unfolded at Room F430, where Kevin, a foreign teacher from Britain, gave an interesting introduction featuring “All about Christmas” and showed the students into the carnival atmosphere of Christmas before the upcoming festival.
 
 
 
SCBC Students Win Bronze in Guangdong College Talent Show
 
On December 11, jointly sponsored by the Guangdong Provincial Committee of Chinese Communist Youth League and Guangdong Provincial Students Union, the final of the 1st Guangdong College Talent Show and the awarding ceremony of Fashion Marketing Entrepreneurship Competition were held at South China University of Technology. The SCBC students won bronze in the final contest by their outstanding performances of flute-piano duet, cat-walking, and quick drawing.
 
 
 
Wu Yi’s Team Achieves Silver in “Challenge Cup” Business Plan Competition
 
Sponsored by the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Youth League, China Association of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the National Students Union, and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, the 8th “Challenge Cup” Business Plan Competition for College Students was held at Shanghai Tongji University. Wu Yi, a student of SCBC, took part in the debate section and the Entrepreneurship Challenge section on behalf of her team and helped the team to achieve Silver in the competition, beating out other 200 competitive teams from all over the country. The team also obtained other awards like “Nova Team of Entrepreneurship” and “Distinguished Team by Judges Recommendation” and made itself one of the most successful teams from Guangdong Province.
 
 
 
EIBUR Education from Spain Visits SCBC
 
On December 12, Mr. Jaume Paris from EIBUR Education in Spain paid a visit to SCBC. The two sides had a preliminary discussion on such issues as the establishment of a teaching center for Spanish language and a test center for DELE (Spanish proficiency test).
