Wu Yi Bestowed “National Excellent Youth Volunteer” Award
 
Recently, Wu Yi, a Grade 2010 student holding the position of deputy secretary of SCBC Communist Youth League Committee, was awarded “National Excellent Youth Volunteer” when the 9th Commendation of Chinese Youth Volunteers unveiled the winners for this year’s titles. The awards include “National Excellent Youth Volunteer”, “National Excellent Organizer of Volunteer Services”, and “National Excellent Volunteer Project”, which are honors of the highest level for youth volunteer services in China and commended by the organizers of the Commendation, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and China Youth Volunteers Association.
 
 
 
SCBC Student Wins Second Prize at “21st Century Cup” National English Speaking Contest (Guangdong Province)
 
Recently, Yu Zifeng, a student from the International Trade and Economics Department of SCBC, excelled as the second prize winner at the 18th “21st Century Cup” National English Speaking Contest (Guangdong competition zone) held at Guangdong University of Technology. In the competition, the contestants are required to complete a 3-minute prepared speech, a 2-minute impromptu speech, and a 2-minute Q&A section.
 
   
 
 
A Farewell Party for First Exchange Scholar at SCBC
 
On January 4, SCBC held a farewell party for Prof. Do Ji Ho from Gimcheon University in South Korea, the first exchange scholar at SCBC, as he completed his teaching and research for SCBC. Based on the agreement of cooperation signed by the two sides, Prof. Do started his work at SCBC in March, 2012, and taught courses of “Korean Language for Business and Trade” and “Korean Writing and Rhetoric” to junior and senior students.
 
 
 
Foreign Teacher Initiates Project to Analyze Chinese Characters
 
On the afternoon of January 4, a project named “New Version of Bilingual Analysis of 3500 Chinese Characters” was launched at Room G106. This project, headed by Mr. Lu Sibin, a foreign teacher of SCBC and a Canadian Chinese, is designed to explain 3500 frequently-used Chinese characters in Chinese and English, the results of which are expected to help foreigners learn Chinese language in a more effective manner. Teachers and students of the English Language and Culture Department and the Chinese Language and Literature Department will collaborate in this project which is due for completion in 2014.
