Deans from Saint Mary’s University in Canada Visit SCBC
 
On March 12, Dr. Steve Smith, Dean of Science, and Dr. Esther Enns, Dean of Arts from Saint Mary’s University, paid a visit to SCBC. Vice President Yuan Changqing welcomed the distinguished guests from Canada and discussed several issues in cooperation with them, such as credits transfer and syllabus design. At present, two SCBC students are studying at Saint Mary’s University.
 
 
 
 
Eight SCBC Students Win Scholarships from University of West England
 
As a reward for the First Prize in the Research Project Competition organized by Prof. Peter Nicholls, eight SCBC students have won £1000 worth of scholarships each from the University of West England. During his 10-day short-term exchange from November 29 to December 8 in 2012, Prof. Nicholls designed a research project competition under the title of “Globalization” for students in the Innovation Class and Selection Class at SCBC. Each of he first prize winners of the competition would be offered a £1000 worth of scholarship (as a tuition fee discount to the University of West England) and a 4-week free language course.
 
 
Wu Yi Awarded Honorary Title “Charismatic Women of Guangzhou”
 
Recently, Guangzhou Women’s Federation held a commemorative ceremony to celebrate the 103rd International Women’s Day and the 60th Anniversary of Guangzhou Women’s Federation. Wu Yi, a student from SCBC, was invited to the commemoration and bestowed the honorary title of “Charismatic Women of Guangzhou”.
 
 
As a star volunteer, Wu also went to Guangdong Provincial Museum to serve in the “Sunshine Actions”, which is a volunteering activity organized by Guangdong Communist Youth League to help children of migrant workers. Together with Lin Shaochun, vice governor of Guangdong Province, in pairing up with two children, Wu gave an interesting tutoring lesson on nature and popular science to the kids, who were deeply touched by her kindness and passion. 
 
 
Arbor Day Commemoration at SCBC
 
On March 14, SCBC organized a ceremonial activity with the theme of “Have More the Green of Arbors, Love More the Beauty of Campus” to commemorate the Chinese Arbor Day and the Month of Learning from Lei Feng in 2013. Mr. Li Dong, secretary of CPC Committee, Mr. Yang Yongqiang, vice president of SCBC, and all the students present at the ceremony planted 44 trees in the field before Students Dormitory Building No.1.
