Teachers and Students of Guangzhou High School 81 Take Part in
English Corner at SCBC
Teachers and students of Guangzhou High School 81 took part in English Corner at SCBC on the evening of Nov. 11. The topic of this English Corner activity was “What do you think about Nov.11?” Foreign teachers John, Rose, Nilo and Charles attended the activity. The party started with short speeches made by 3 students, then John made a summary speech, he concluded that it was happy to have a married life, while single people should be courageous in pursuit of happiness.
After the game of “Sentence-making Relay”, all the students began to have free chat with foreign teachers. Students from the High School No. 81 surrounded the foreign teacher for discussion. Rose, one of foreign teachers, shared her view of the “Double 11 Day”, “It is good for people to shop vehemently on this day, as it favors the development of national economy.” Rose said, “However, people should not consider the day as a special holiday that affects the day’s routine of work and living.”
To invite students of High School No. 81 to join in the English Corner is part of the SCBC students’ social practice of mutual community construction with elementary and high schools in the vicinity, which has long been shown the SCBC faculty and students’ efforts in routinizing and branding of better serving the community.
SCBC Students on Mexican Media by Lecturing Chinese Culture
Three SCBC students were recently invited to give talks on Chinese culture at University of Celaya, Mexico. Sun Huixian, Chen Dan and Liang Weiheng of the College of Western Languages and Cultures, who are currently in a one-semester tuition-free exchange program at Celaya, were highly appreciated for their talks.
“Three Countries, three cultures” was the topic of the lecture at University of Celaya, and students from China, Brazil and Mexico were key speakers. The 3 SCBC students were invited to talk about Chinese culture. The lecture was carried on the local media, and photos of SCBC student speakers were published in the newspapers.
A delegation of Celaya faculty and students is reportedly to visit SCBC for a week of business exchange activity at the end of this month, they will bring a Celaya exhibition will be shown in SCBC and a dialogue conference will be held for faculty and students of both sides, which will surely be promoting the exchange between the 2 schools with our students’ personal contact with Mexican culture.
A Talk on Immigrants by Prof. Ravio Vetik of Tallinn University, Estonia
Prof. Ravio Vetik gave a talk in English on “The Adaptive Phase of Russian Immigrants in Estonia, Norway and Finland” to share his research achievements with SCBC faculty and students in Classroom E205.
Prof. Ravio Vetik is from Tallinn University, Estonia and a member of the Marie Curie International Scientific Researchers Exchange Program (IRSES Project) of European Union. His research is part of the IRSES Project that aims to bring together a group of researchers to form a research group to explore this topic as a world level study. Prof. Ravio Vetik visits SCBC for a six-week exchange program during which he will give 2 lectures and experience Chinese culture together with international students
