SCBC Designates 23 Smoking Zones
Recently, observant faculty and students may have noticed posted signs for smoking zones around particular areas on campus. These signs indicate, "For a more eco-friendly campus, smoking pedestrians are prohibited". This is one of the steps taken by SCBC in maintaining a greener, more eco-friendly campus.
Historically speaking, SCBC has taken initiatives in keeping a green campus to provide a pleasant working and studying environment for SCBC faculty and students. However, the presence of smoke does not comply with the goals of sustaining an environmentally sound campus. Therefore, the action to control the emission of tobacco became an objective on the agenda. The vice-president of SCBC, Mr. Yongqiang Yang, in an interview with media stated, "Smoking is an addiction that is hard to absolve from, to commit to quitting such an addiction can be quite difficult. In this case, SCBC has resorted to designating zones for smokers to reduce secondhand-smoking that negatively affect non-smokers, at the same time, minimize the frequency for smoking, so as to psychologically curb this addictive habit.
According to sources, in making a greater stride in this anti-tobacco effort, SCBC will document regulations of tobacco control. A follow-up story will continue.
Addendum: Designated Smoking Zones
1. Student Dormitories 1-4: Three zones. The entrance of each dormitory, with a shared zone between Dormitories 2 and 3.
2. Student Dormitories 5-8: Four zones. The entrance of each dormitory.
3. Instructional Buildings F, G: Two zones. One for each men's restroom.
4. Instructional Buildings A-E: Three zones. One at men's restroom on the second floor. Two at each end of the Conference Room of Building C.
5. Administrative Building: Three zones. One zone on each floor of Buildings 1 through 3.
6. Laboratory Building: One zone. One beside the second floor men's restroom.
7. Campus Plaza: One zone. One beside the men's restroom.
8. Cafeteria: Three zones. One beside each sink on Floors 1 through 3.
9. Service Building: One zone. One beside the restroom.
10. Service building path leading to the Stadium: one zone.
11. At the door of the restroom of the stadium stage: one zone.
