On the morning of Dec. 6th, the executive Vice President Lai Zhili met with, in the Distinguished Guest Hall, the visiting Vice President Hugo Lopez and his crew from University of Navarra, Spain. A talk was held by both sides about further co-operation between two schools.

Lai Zhili, on behalf of SCBC, started the meeting by extending his most sincere welcome to the vice president and his entourage from University of Navarra, Spain.

Hugo Lopez stated in his speech that his visit is intended to strengthen the existing co-operation made by two sides for the last two years. And new co-operative efforts have been initiated in some new disciplines on the basis of the existing co-operation. And Lai Zhili said that since the signing of the tentative agreement and the co-operative referendum between SCBC and Navarra University in June of 2013, both sides have maintained good relations, and students from SCBC who have completed their studies at University of Navarra make very positive comments about the school after they return to SCBC.

Hugo Lopez indicated that although there are only a few students from University of Navarra who have come to study at SCBC, those who have returned to University of Navarra do give very good feed-back on their life and studies on the campus of SCBC. In view of this, administrators of University of Navarra are trying to generate interest of their students in coming to study at SCBC. Mr. Lopez also stated that he has great confidence in more and more successful co-operation between University of Navarra and SCBC.

Since it was Hugo Lopez’s maiden visit to SCBC, Lai Zhili went an extra mile to brief him and his entourage on basic info and various disciplines at SCBC with a detailed description of majors such as literature, economics and management. Lai Zhili mentioned that foreign languages studies at SCBC include 11 majors in 9 languages with SCBC’s priority in integrating foreign languages into other majors. Because of this, SCBC firmly believes in exchange and co-operation with universities overseas. So far, there are about 80 universities overseas that have entered into co-operative agreements with SCBC. And they are located in 15 countries and regions throughout the world. Of approximately 50 universities overseas which have had virtual exchange with SCBC, Spanish-speaking national universities are mainly located in Spain, Mexico and Chile. Lai Zhili expressed his wish to bring about co-operation and exchange in more aspects with University of Navarra on the existing basis of students’ exchange.

Hugo Lopez elaborated on University of Navarra, which is located in the Navarra Autonomous Region to the north of Spain. This autonomous region provides a sound social and health insurance system which stands out in the nation. Meanwhile, thanks to secured capital investment in employment from the Spanish government, graduates from University of Navarra enjoy a higher rate of employment opportunities, which, in turn, has a very positive impact on the growth of University of Navarra due to the security system. In regard to the status quo of its growth, said Hugo Lopez, the university has signed up, all over the world, approximately 360 co-operative programs with co-operative partners in more than 50 countries. He said that an advanced Spanish language program for post graduate students will be offered next year in order to create a platform for undergraduate students majoring in the Spanish language. In view of great success made in the exchange and co-operation of undergraduates between University of Navarra and SCBC, he expected that the two schools can co-operate in the training of graduate students down the road.

The meeting concluded with the mutual exchange of gifts and photo-taking by participating reps from both universities.
