SCBC Stepping up Preparations for the Establishment of Key Disciplines with Provincial Traits and Master’s Programs
A meeting was held at SCBC on the afternoon of March 2nd to file for the establishment of key disciplines with special traits and master’s programs. This marks the official start-up for the establishment of two key disciplines at the provincial level and master’s programs at SCBC. Present at the meeting were officials from relevant majors, disciplines and schools. The meeting was also attended by Vice President Wang Xinjie, who rolled out the work plans.
According to the news on the 11th of January, Department of Education, Guangdong Province officially publicized its approval of English Language and Literature and International Trade at SCBC as key disciplines with Guangdong Provincial traits. The establishment of the two disciplines has become the most important of what is intended to achieve at SCBC in the semester. With the establishment of key disciplines with special features, SCBC has authorized the five majors to make preparations for offer master’s programs such as Translation, International Business, Finance, Accounting and Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.
Vice president Wang Xinjie made three requests in regard to the establishment of key disciplines with special features. First, relevant officials in charge of the two key disciplines with provincial traits are supposed to further interpret and ponder on the special features and predominance of the two disciplines regarding their submissions so as to be headed in the right direction. Secondly, teachers and other sectors are supposed to work closely to formulate detailed measures, in regard to the establishment of disciplines with special features, for the specific plans, procedures and deadlines. Thirdly and lastly, relevant functions are supposed to work together to make a well-planned and efficient use of funds.
The vice president emphases that the approval of master’s programs at SCBC is of great significance in promoting the school’s status and caliber in education as well as its core competitiveness. Officials from the five majors were encouraged to be leaders of foresight, who are supposed to gain initiative for the well-prepared submissions. Vice President Wang Xinjie requested that, as leaders from these majors, they should carefully study requirements for the submission to locate their own deficiencies so as to work out relevant solutions to the plans. Pragmatic and effective measures must be worked out to address the existing issues in the establishment of disciplines. Efforts should be made in such aspects as hiring top talents and tutors from various disciplines, and upgrading labs with the state-of-the-art equipment and hardware.
