Facilitating Exchange by Making Friends through Book Donation – Books Were Donated to SCBC by Ecuador Consulate in Guangzhou
Vice president Wang Xinjie on 19 May met with Ms. Matiella Molina, consul general and her entourage from Ecuador Consulate in Guangzhou, who came to SCBC for a visit and donated a collection of short stories entitled LOVE AND COMPLAINT FROM THE CENTER OF THE EARTH created by 27 contemporary writers in Ecuador.
Ms. Molina was quoted as saying that she hopes that students at SCBC will be able to better understand the cultural tradition and social reality of Ecuador through the exchange with SCBC and donation of books.
Wang Xinjie, on behalf of SCBC, accepted the donation by Ms. Molina. The donated collection reportedly consists of 27 short masterpieces created with signature features by Ecuadorian writers from different age groups. Centered around love, all of the 27 short stories have presented a paramount picture of Ecuador in various perspectives such as historical background, cultural custom and social issues.
Wang Xinjie, reportedly saying thanks to the Ecuador Consulate for the book donation, was quoted as saying that the donated books have not only filled the void of SCBC but also brought some great reading experience to students at SCBC, who will be able to better understand histories and cultures of countries in Latin America. Both Wang Xinjie and Ms. Molina, after a further discussion, were said to show their mutual interest in promoting some more practical exchange and co-operation between SCBC and colleges and universities in Ecuador.
After the event of the book donation, a campus tour was scheduled for Ms. Matiella Molina and her crew, who were allegedly invited for a taste of coffee at the log hut, one of the bases of innovative programs by entrepreneurs of students at SCBC.
Foreign Teachers from SCBC Went on an Excursion to Heyuan to Experience its Culture and Custom as Well as Scenic Views
Over a dozen of international teachers at SCBC were recently offered a free excursion to Heyuan, where they were able to experience its unique Hakka Culture and tourist attractions, which impressed them a lot and made them appreciative of what the school had done to bring them to such an awesome place of Lingnan Culture with picturesque views.
Borja, a teacher from Spain, was quoted as saying that it was a wonderful experience for him to join the international teachers for the weekend tour.
Dragon Boat Festival Being Celebrated amid Music and Drumbeat
The Dragon Boat Festival is usually celebrated with dragon-boat races amid the reverberating crackling of firecrackers and boom of drumbeat. 25 May marked the 2nd day of the kicking off of the 7th dragon-boat races in SCBC. Nine participating faculty teams were pitted against 18 student teams that had been qualified for the finalist race. The high morale of each and every participating team was live streamed online by omni media journalists from Guangzhou Daily as well as Maria, a pretty Russian teacher at SCBC. Doubtlessly, all the heat of the races and spectacular moments of the event are able to repeat themselves through the lens of the reporters.
Students from SCBC Won 3rd Prize at National Finals for China National College Students Speech Contest of 20th “FLTRP Cup”
The finals were held at China Foreign Affairs University for China National College Students Speech Contest of the FLTRP Cup from 18 to 24 May. At the finals, two students from SCBC became the 3rd Prize winners like Fang Anting of the English Language Major (News & Media) of Grade 2014 and Fan Linyuan of Finance Major (Bilingual Program) of Grade 2015 with one of the Top Judges going to Ms. Xia Jiajia also from SCBC.
