Yang Juhua, SCBC Graduate of 2008, Donates 20,000 as Financial-aid Scholarship

Yang Juhua, SCBC graduate of 2008 in Japanese Language gave a donation of RMB 20,000 yuan to set up a financial-aid scholarship at SCBC on October 1. The ongoing giving from Ms. Yang, now general manager of Hong Kong Hua Cheng Electronics Co. Ltd., will be repeated in the future to support students who are financially inadequate but excellent in both character and learning to complete university education at SCBC. Also present at the donation ceremony were Executive Vice President Lai Zhili, Vice President Wang Xinjie and representatives from the School of Asian Languages and Cultures.

Losing her father at an early age, Yang Juhua was faced with extreme financial difficulties in college. But she never gave up and was able to finish her college education thanks to SCBC’s financial aid program by which she was exempted from all or part of her tuition fees and received monthly subsistence allowances. The encouragement and care from the loving teachers and advisers had inspired her to be an entrepreneur and help more people. Two years after graduation she founded her own company and quickly expanded the business from the Pearl River Delta to the whole country and then further to Southeast Asia. Always grateful to SCBC for the help and support in the four years of her college life, she hoped to return the favor by giving donations as financial aids to SCBC students.

Ms. Yang’s giving was of great significance for this was the first donation from alumni that SCBC had received since 2006 when it began to offer undergraduate programs. The College will set up a financial-aid scholarship in Yang Juhua’s name for the Department of Asian Languages and Culture (now renamed the School of Asian Languages and Cultures) where she used to study Japanese language to support those virtuous students who are financially inadequate but academically outstanding. Ms. Yang hoped that her act could help encourage current undergraduate students to study hard in college, and at the same time urge herself to work hard on developing her business further so that she could be better empowered to give back more to her alma mater and to society at large.
