SCBC Opens the Third Faculty Congress & Labor Union Congress
On the afternoon of November 23, the 3rd Faculty Congress & Labor Union Congress of South China Business College were held at the Conference Hall (C201) in the presence of all delegates, specially-invited delegates and non-voting participants.
The preparatory meeting has elected the members of the congress presidium, with Vice President Li Dong, also the Party secretary of SCBC, as its chairman, Vice President Wang Xinjie, also the vice Party secretary of SCBC, as its vice chairman, and Huang Hancheng, the Party secretary of the School of International Economics and Finance, as its executive chairman and secretary general.
Executive Vice President Lai Zhili delivered a report entitled “Seeking Opportunities and Furthering the Reform to Raise the Quality and Level of Education” in which he reviewed the work of the past two years and laid out the key tasks for 2018. In the report, he identified nine priority areas of work that would be essential to reaching the goals of developing SCBC into a high-level university, including 1) accelerating the development of provincial key programs and the application for Professional Master’s Degree programs; 2)getting prepared for the appraisals of teaching quality and the work of conferring academic titles according to the State Council policy concerning streamlining administration, combining power delegation with enhanced supervision and optimizing public services; 3) enhancing teaching reform to improve the quality of education; 4) building teamwork platforms to prompt research achievements of milestone significance; 5) strengthening the training of faculty and the introduction of academic talents; 6)promoting international exchange and cooperation; 7) consolidating the guiding power of thought and the atmosphere of learning; 8)facilitating the steady reform of logistical socialization to create a more functional campus; and 9) constantly improving the work of the Party.
Mr. Lai hoped that the whole faculty and staff should strive unyieldingly with concerted efforts to comprehensively improve the quality of education and build South China Business College into a high-level private university, while grasping the opportunities and overcoming the inevitable obstacles in furthering the reform of education.
Chairman of Labor Union Huang Hancheng gave a report entitled “Be Pragmatic in the Services to SCBC’s Overall Development” to brief the congress the Union’s work of the past years and outline new steps in the future.
Head of the Human Resource Department Yang Lin explained, on behalf of the SCBC Task Force for Academic Titles Appraisal, the procedures and policy basis in the drafting of documents regarding the conferring of academic titles after the government released a policy to streamline administration, combine power delegation with enhanced supervision and optimize public services.
In the group discussion and review, the four delegations agreed that the work reports had summarized the efforts of SCBC in the past years systematically, comprehensively and in good details. The participants also studied the drafted documents related to SCBC’s scheme of conferring academic titles and put forwards many useful and thoughtful suggestions and advice.
