SCBC Becomes A CNARC Member Institute
South China Business College was accepted as a member institute of the China-Nordic Arctic Research Center (CNARC) in the 6th China-Nordic Arctic Cooperation Symposium held from May 23 to 26.
The China-Nordic Arctic Cooperation Symposium is a yearly meeting of the CNARC. Representatives from quite a few institutes in China and Nordic nations attended the Symposium this year, including the Polar Research Institute of China, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, Tongji University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Ocean University of China, the Department of European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China Institute for Maritime Affairs, Renmin University of China, Shanghai Fisheries Group, Norwegian Polar Institute, Fridtjof Nansen Institute, the Arctic University of Norway, University Nord, Norwegian Seafood Council, Umea University of Sweden, and the Canadian Arctic Affairs Department.
Vice President Yang Li of SCBC introduced South China Business College and its academic structure to the panel in the membership approval debate held by the Secretariat of CNARC. In a well-applauded and highly-evaluated presentation, Mr. Lang highlighted the details regarding SCBC’s Center for Polar Research, such as its background, research teams, research orientation and achievements, and its aspiration to obtain membership of the CNARC. After thoughtful discussion and deliberation, the Secretariat decided to accept SCBC as a full member institute of the CNARC.
Yang Huigen, director of the Polar Research Institute of China, congratulated Vice President Yang Li on SCBC’s membership on behalf of the CNARC Secretariat. Director Yang said that the membership should be a great opportunity for SCBC to strengthen its Center for Polar Research through resources consolidation and research team building. He expected that after three to five years of development, SCBC would be able to forge some breakthroughs in studies of China-Nordic economic cooperation, education collaboration, international governance, and aboriginal languages and cultures .
The CNARC was established to provide a platform for research cooperation on arctic affairs and to strengthen academic and business ties between China and Nordic countries. SCBC’s membership of the CNARC will be a huge boost to the scientific research at its Center for Polar Research, which was registered in the filing system of the Regional and National Studies of the Ministry of Education and inaugurated in December 2017.
