Chair of SCBC Board Ding Xiaojun Visits Three Institutions of Higher Education in Japan
From April 12 to 21, Mr. Ding Xiaojun, chair of the Board of SCBC visited three partner institutions of higher learning in Japan, including Aichi Toho University, Josai International University, and Kyushu Foreign Language Academy, accompanied by Professor Gu Yeli, also supervisor of undergraduate education at SCBC, Xu Jinghua, vice-dean of the School of Asian Languages and Cultures, Weng Lin, assistant dean of the School of Education, and Japanese language teacher Xu Zhe. The group also took a tour of the affiliated primary school and kindergarten of Sugiyama Jogakuen University.
The group went to Aichi Toho University on April 16 and held talks with the University’s president and vice president. President Sakaki Naoki hoped that SCBC teachers would come for academic exchange in the second half of the year and Aichi Toho students would be sent to SCBC for short-term studies. The two sides agreed to promote further a higher level of cooperation and exchanges.
During the tight schedule, Mr. Ding and the group called on the SCBC students at Aichi Toho University and asked about their life and studies in Japan. He encouraged them to fully experience Japanese culture in the spare time and to work hard for further education in prestigious universities. The students were appreciative of the heartening visit and pledged that they would cherish the opportunity to study abroad and live up to what their alma mater expects of them.
On April 17, Mr. Ding led the group in a tour of the affiliated primary school, kindergarten and nursery of Sugiyama Jogakuen University accompanied by the University’s Chair of the Board of Trustees Kimio Morimune. The group was quite impressed by the educational facilities that are particularly designed for the benefits of children of different ages and the pedagogical ideas that focus on nurturing children through playing games, building interpersonal relationship, and drawing on the positive influence of surrounding environment.
On April 19, Mr. Ding and his group visited the Tokyo Kioicho campus of Josai International University in the company of Masato Kurabayashi, vice president of Josai International University, and Gong Wei from the University’s department of international exchanges and cooperation. Later, the group attended a formal meeting with President Kenji Sugibayashi, who projected a promising future of partnership after a brief review of past cooperation between the two sides. Mr. Ding also shared similar views in his speech.
On April 20, Mr. Ding had talks with Superintendent Teruyama of the Nibonbashi campus of Kyushu Foreign Language Academy. Together they inaugurated the Training Base of South China Business College in the Academy. The Base, as the second of its kind in Japan, will render more opportunities for SCBC faculty and students to exchange and study in Japan. Three students of non-Japanese language will start their journey in the Academy, signifying a substantive step of cooperation between the two institutions.
SCBC Alumni Association in Japan Established in Tokyo
Twenty SCBC alumni and exchange students witnessed in the Japanese capital city of Tokyo the establishment of SCBC Alumni Association in Japan, or SCBC’s second overseas alumni association, in the presence of Mr. Ding Xiaojun, chair of the Board of SCBC, accompanied by Professor Gu Yeli, supervisor of undergraduate education at SCBC, Ms. Xu Jinghua, vice-dean of the School of Asian Languages and Cultures, Weng Lin, secretary of SCBC General Alumni Association, and Japanese language teachers Xu Zhe and Zhang Yuanyuan.
The meeting reviewed and approved the appointment of the first committee members of the Association, with alumni Huang Siwei of 2009 as president, Yang Juhua of 2008 as vice-president, Chen Juanjuan of 2011 as general secretary, Wu Meina of 2009 as director.
The SCBC Alumni Association, which aims at strengthening contacts between alumni and between them and their alma mater, has been striving to become a platform for SCBC alumni to help each other and communicate locally as well as to support the development of their alma mater.
The establishment of SCBC Alumni Association in Japan has embodied the achievement of SCBC’s continuous efforts in foreign language education and internationalization. After more than 20 years of development, SCBC has made top on the ranking of foreign language programs for independent colleges in Guangdong province. Every year SCBC sends 400-plus students to study or research in overseas partner institutions. Her alumni have been active in different walks of life in various countries in Asia, Europe, and Americas.
