SCBC holds summit on the strategic development of Airport Economy in the Greater Bay Area
On November 2, a summit & seminar on the strategic development of airport economy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held at South China Business College under the auspices of Guangdong Social Sciences Association and Guangzhou Social Science Federation, as a parallel session of 2019 annual conference for Social Sciences in Guangdong.
In his opening speech, Pro-Vice Chancellor Wang Hua of SCBC spoke of the summit as a grand academic event for professors, experts and industry insiders from different countries, government departments, enterprises, and academic institutions to share their illuminating thoughts and ideas on the development of the Greater Bay Area and airport economy. This summit, he said, as a good occasion to promote exchanges and cooperation, will not only help further expand the impact of researches of airport economy, but also accelerate more progress in the development of airport economy in the Greater Bay Area. He hoped that more people, as they came to the Summit, will get to know SCBC better, and give support to SCBC’s Airport Economy Collaborative Innovation Research Center, which is recognized as a research base for Social Sciences studies in Guangdong. He also expected that the researchers of the Center seize opportunities of the new era and work hard to make more achievements as soon as possible, as part of the effort to build the Center into a leading high-end think tank in the province.
In the seminar, experts and scholars from universities, research institutions, enterprises, and industry associations home and abroad, including South Korean University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Sun Yat-Sen University, University of International Business and Economics, South China Business College, China Air Transport Association, Guangdong Airport Management Group, China Urban Air Economic Research Center, Guangzhou Airport Logistics Association, etc., have come to exchange their thoughts and ideas in the in-depth discussion on the various topics, such as challenges in the innovation of Aviation industry innovation and the coping strategies, building the Area into an International Science and Technology Innovation Center, comparisons between the Capital airport economy and that of the Greater Bay Area, planning and building Guangzhou metropolitan area, coordinated development of port economy and airport economy, implementing the Greater Bay Area Development Plan, the development of the Pearl River Delta and aviation related industries around Foshan Airport, the opportunities and challenges of Guangzhou Airport Logistics Development, Guangdong's foreign trade situation and its links to the development of airport Economy.
SCBC commemorates the 110th anniversary of China’s aviation industry
On November 2, South China Business College held celebrations to commemorate the 110th anniversary of China’s aviation industry, which included activities of a meeting on the achievements of China’s aviation industry and an exhibition of photos showcasing the milestones in the industry’s history.
In the meeting, Professor and Ph. D Supervisor Tan Zhenya, also former deputy secretary of the CPC committee of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, elaborated the importance of promoting aviation education as demanded by the reality of the new era. He laid stress on a balanced of efforts between "soft science" and "hard science" and offered his advice to SCBC in terms of its own aviation education: shifting from light-weighted soft science to hard science that requires high-end equipment and more research funding; exploring “aviation plus” programs that cater to the development of the Greater Bay Area and the Guangzhou Demo Zone of aviation-related economy. Taking advantage of the strategic opportunity of Belt and Road Initiative and of “Aerial Silk Road” cooperation, South China Business College shall be able to train students into high-level professionals and contribute its bits to build up the country.
Wu Jiwei, senior adviser of China Institute of Airport Economics and chairman of Aviation Writers Association, gave a report under the title “Let’s build a world-class aviation industry--110 years of China’s aviation” that tells the story of how the industry has evolved into what it is today, from its original goal of saving the nation to its mission of empowering the nation. People in the industry have big dreams, he said, but there is still a long way to go, despite great progress made all through the years.
Mr. Wu believes that whether a country has a strong aviation industry ultimately comes down to the public’s interest in it. Therefore, it is important to popularize the history of China’s aviation and the perseverance of the industry’s forerunners, so as to cultivate an awareness among the populace that the aviation industry must be powerful if the country is to be strong. Actions should be taken to disseminate aviation knowledge, encourage broad participation in the popularization, and stimulate interest and curiosity in the space and even an urge to engage in the aerospace industry.
According to Mr. Wu, China’s aviation industry has been committed to its mission of serving the nation, and it has been making progress along the way by integrating military-civilian purposes with industrial application. Under a framework of development that is characterized by intensive operation, precise management, market-oriented reforms, systematic progress and win-win cooperation, the industry is striving to achieve the goal of global leadership in terms of innovation, corporate culture, and competitiveness. “We should get the thing close to our people and make it a fashion,” said Mr. Wu.
