A new journey begins: Opening ceremony held for 2020 freshmen
On the morning of September 22, a grand opening ceremony was held for more than 2000 freshmen of 2020 in the presence of SCBC’s leadership and heads of all schools, divisions, and departments.
The ceremony was presided over by Xu Zhichao, Secretary of the CPC committee at SCBC. Executive President Wang Hua extended a warm welcome to the new students on behalf of all SCBCers. He said, “we have been expecting you for too long, and finally you are here with us at the beautiful campus. I wish you a wonderful and fruitful college life at SCBC.”
Wang then challenged the new students with three questions and shared his understanding with them, namely, “What is a university?” “Is it a good decision to choose SCBC?” and “What can be learned in university?” He had high expectations of the freshmen to achieve in the following five aspects. First, take responsibility for themselves and for the country. The times call for pioneers and this generation of college students should take the baton that history has handed over to them and build the country into a prosperous socialist society. Second, learn to study independently, because the ability to study independently is vital to the success of the four-year college education. Third, learn how to communicate effectively. This is not just about treating others with respect, sincerity, and kindness, but also giving help to and getting help from others. Fourth, learn to keep healthy and strong both mentally and physically. This is prerequisite for one to adapt to a rapidly changing world. Finally, learn to build dreams, and keep striving ahead with unwavering faith and a down-to-earth attitude, until all the dreams come true.
