Students are canvassed for their views on issues important to SCBC
Recently, Executive President Wang Hua had a meeting with more than 30 student representatives to discuss issues related to their life and studies on campus and the future development of SCBC. “Let’s talk like friends,” he said to them. “This is supposed to be an occasion for candid discussion about anything in our interest, and your opinions and suggestions are all welcome.”
The representatives aired the problems that they had collected from students, for example, the overlapping schedule of Innovation Class courses with compulsory major courses and the shortage of pianos and other musical instrument. They asked about the arrangements of graduation photo-shooting and commencement ceremony, and the distinction between majors that look similar. They also suggested that targeted courses be offered to help student prepare for important national exams. Their opinions and suggestions covered a wide range of issues, from heated topics in society to matters regarding the management of college, such as students’ participation in running the campus, the plans of cultivating talented students, the development of campus culture, internet services, campus logistics, etc..
Executive President Wang listened carefully and responded to students’ complaints and problems that they had had in life and studies. “We will try every possible means to fix the problems and create a better environment for students to live and study,” he said, “you can talk to your advisers or e-mail me any time if you have any problems. We will then look at them and see how we are going to fix them.”
Dai Fangyun, a freshman admitted to International Trade(Bilingual Instruction program) was quite heartened after the meeting. “I was surprised on my first day here to see such a big, beautiful campus.” She said, “We have great advisers and teachers; they are all very responsible. And we can communicate with our president directly, which means our college really cares about what we think. I’m happy for that and I wish our college a better future!”
