SCBC student takes top prize at 2020 Japanese Speaking Contest
On November 15, the 15th All-China Japanese Speaking Contest(South China Region) was held at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Jiao Zipeng, a student of Japanese from the School of Asian Languages and Cultures, claimed the top prize thanks to his excellent Japanese proficiency and confident performance on the stage, which sets him onto the national final to be held in January 2021.
Against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, the contest this year featured both online and offline components. Undergraduate students of Japanese from Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, and Hainan competed in the preliminary qualification, of whom 28 contestants, including those from prestigious universities like Sun Yet-sen University, Hainan University, Xiamen University, and South China Normal University, stood out and reached the final.
The 24th SCBC Sports Meet kicks off
On the beautiful bright autumn day of November 19, the opening of the 24 SCBC Sports Meet took place to an audience of leaders from SCBC’s management team, faculty, staff, and students.Xu Zhichao, secretary of CPC Committee at SCBC, delivered an opening speech, saying that the annual Sports Meet was both a review of the work on physical education and a showcase for the upbeat sporting spirit of all teachers and students. The Sports meet was also an occasion to promote the fitness campaign for all and to advocate for sportsmanship. We should apply the spirit of striving for excellence despite hardship in sports to our everyday life and work and foster our own unique SCBCers’ character in the “Pursuit of Integrity, Practice and Cross-cultural Learning”. He called on all of us to work harder to achieve sooner our goal of building SCBC into a high-level university with distinctive features.
Vice President Wang Xinjie hosted the ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, Executive President Wang Hua declared the Sports Meet open.
