SCBC hosts the 7th Japanese Speech Contest for Students of Private Higher Education Institutions in Guangdong
On the afternoon of November 6, South China Business College hosted the 7th Japanese Speech Contest for Students of Private Higher Education Institutions in Guangdong at the International Conference Hall. The Contest was organized by the South China Branch of the China Association of Japanese Teaching and Research and the Guangdong Federation of Japanese Teaching and Research of Private Undergraduate Institutions, and sponsored by Guangzhou Langpro Translation Services, Co. Ltd. and Casio (China) Co. Ltd.
Twenty-five outstanding contestants from 12 private higher education institutions participated online through the Tencent Meeting, an online communication application. The competition was held both online and offline, with guests, judges and staff members of the organizer on site at the International Conference Hall, and teachers, college students,and Japanese language learners from home and abroad watching the competition live via online streaming media.
Prestigious professors and scholars were invited to the judge panel for the Contest, including Prof. Chen Duoyou from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, also president of the South China Branch of the China Association of Japanese Teaching and Research, Prof. Zhang Zhigang from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Prof. Tong Jun from Sun Yat-sen University, Prof. Wang Baofeng from Jinan University, Prof. Li Yannan from South China Normal University, Prof. Zhang Shouxiang from Guangdong University of Technology, and a scholar in charge of the Japanese Affairs Department of Guangzhou Langpro Translation Services, Co. Ltd. Prof. Zhao Fuchun, vice president of South China Business College, and Prof. Li Aiwen from SCBC’s School of Asian Languages and Cultures, also president of the Guangdong Federation of Japanese Teaching and Research, attended the event.
Zhao Fuchun delivered a speech on behalf of South China Business College. He said that the multi-fold purposes of the 7th Japanese Speech Contest for Students of Private Higher Education Institutions were to build a bridge for communication and exchange among Japanese majors in private colleges and universities in the province, to create a platform for them to show their brilliance, and to improve the teaching quality of Japanese language in Guangdong province. After 15 years of unremitting efforts, South China Business College, as one private higher education institution that attaches great importance to language education and practice, has made remarkable progress in Japanese language education, thanks to its steady steps in faculty building, training program implementation and academic culture formation. Zhao Fuchun hoped that through the Contest, the friendly exchange with other higher institutions could step up to another level with concerted efforts from all parties involved to improve the level of Japanese language teaching in private universities in Guangdong province and train students into well-rounded citizens with Japanese proficiency to serve the country and the society.
The competition consisted of proposition speech and impromptu speech. In the proposition speech session, 13 contestants from the freshman and sophomore group and 12 contestants from the junior and senior group were required to respectively give a 4-minute speech on the topics of my encounter with Japanese and The challenge of the Covid 19 pandemic.
After a fierce competition, Hu Qiuyan from Guangzhou Business School and Deng Ke from Zhuhai Institute of Science and Technology won the first prize in the the freshman and sophomore group and the junior and senior group respectively; Hong Honglie and Shi Zilin from South China Business College claimed the second prize in the two groups respectively thanks to their excellent performances.
