SCBC has more programs selected into national and provincial first-class undergraduate program projects

Recently, the Ministry of Education has announced the list of undergraduate programs for national and provincial first-class undergraduate program project in 2021. SCBC’s three programs were seen on the list, with its Japanese language program in the national project, and English language and Korean language in the provincial project. So far, SCBC has two programs selected to be developed in the national first-class undergraduate program project, and four programs in the provincial project. The first-class undergraduate program project is an ambitious plan to create top undergraduate programs in both national and provincial levels.

This good news shows that there is steady improvement of quality of SCBC’s disciplinary system as well as its mode and practice of training students. In recent years, SCBC has been working hard to build up itself with a keen focus on the quality of undergraduate education. The goal is to cultivate students into practice-oriented and high-quality members of society, which marks SCBC’s determination to return to the fundamentals and the original purpose of higher education. To this end, SCBC has made genuine efforts, such as in making readjustment to the disciplinary structure, upgrading training plans, building a team of high-level faculty, reforming curriculum and pedagogical patterns, and strengthening logistics support to quality education.

In the next five years, SCBC will continue its efforts in this regard. In particular, more resources will be streamed to promote the development of first-class undergraduate programs with distinctive features and competitiveness that will be accredited professionally and recognized in society. Meanwhile, with its first-class undergraduate programs as example, SCBC will take further steps to boost the quality of development of all undergraduate programs and hence improve its practice-focused educational system in general. 



SCBC designated as test center for CATTI International in Guangdong

On June 14, a ceremony was held in Guanghzou to designate SCBC as a test center for CATTI International in Guangdong Province. Zhao Yilong, head of the Overseas Examination Department of CATTI Project Management Center of China International Communications Group, Wang Xinjie, vice president of South China Business College, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Wen Binli, dean of the School of English Language and Culture, and Huang Hancheng, director of the Department of Continuing Education, attended the ceremony.

At the ceremony, Zhao Yilong handed a plaque of CATTI International Test Center of Guangdong Province” to Vice President Wang. The two sides then had an in-depth exchange on matters related to the international dissemination of CATTI. As a supplement and extension of the existing CATTI examination system, the CATTI International is of great significance in enhancing SCBC’s international exchanges and its students’ ability to use foreign languages, in unleashing the potential of foreign-related employment, and in promoting the international dissemination of Chinese culture.

CATTI International is a global language test sponsored by China International Communications Group, organized and implemented by the CATTI Project Management Center. The test is open to candidates all over the world, including China. It focuses on assessing the bilingual ability of domestic and foreign translators and practitioners of international business with China. As an important part of China's translation ability assessment system, it has been incorporated into the national key project to improve the ability to engage in international communication. Since its launch at the end of 2019, it has attracted participation of Chinese and foreign candidates from more than seventy countries and regions around the world, and has played an important role in promoting cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and enhancing the international influence of Chinese language.

The test center in Guangdong for CATTI International offer tests in three language pairs, namely Chinese-English, Chinese-Japanese and Chinese-Korean. The establishment of the test center is a full affirmation of the quality and characteristics of SCBC, which is helpful to SCBC’s drive to raise the quality of cultivating application-oriented graduates with foreign language proficiency.
