Digital Science and Technology Division of Guangdong Institute of Higher Education established at SCBC
On June 17, the inaugural meeting of the Digital Science and Technology Division of Guangdong Institute of Higher Education and its first academic conference were held at South China Business College of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. President Wei Zhonglin, Executive Vice President Tang Zhenmin, and Deputy Secretary General Liu Zhiwen of Guangdong Institute of Higher Education, and Executive President Wang Hua, Supervisor Gu Yeli, Vice President He Aibing of SCBC were present at the meeting. Nearly 150 experts, scholars and technicians from 100 universities, research institutes and enterprises in Guangdong attended the meeting online or offline, including Sun Yat-sen University and South China University of Technology.
Supervisor Gu Yeli delivered a welcoming speech, saying that the Digital Science and Technology Division will rally the strengths of universities, enterprises and institutions in the province to make systematic efforts on the digital transformation and the high-quality development of higher education, such as academic exchange, academic research, technology popularization and demonstration.
Wei Zhonglin said in his speech that with the resources and strengths from all parties and the dedicated support of experts and scholars, the Digital Science and Technology Division will grasp the trend of digital science and technology and its connection with the reform and development of higher education and the new model of student cultivation, and make its due contribution to the innovative development of digital science and technology in Guangdong, the digital transformation of higher education and the improvement of student training.
Wang Hua, the newly elected Chairman of the Digital Science and Technology Division, expressed the hope that under the leadership of Guangdong Institute of Higher Education, the Division will become a platform integrating the efforts from governments, industries, universities and research institutes, and will work with researchers and practitioners in the higher education to promote the high-quality development of higher education and the cultivation of digital-savvy talent.
Qi Deyu, executive vice chairman of the Digital Science and Technology Division and director of SCBC’s Institute of Digital Science and Technology, said that the Division will focus on technology and industries with an orientation on digitization of education and digital education. He believed that it will muster the strengths of universities, enterprises and individual researchers in Guangdong to look into the characteristics and laws of modern education, and promote the modernization of the structure of education for high-quality development in the area.
The meeting reviewed and adopted the drafted management system of the Digital Science and Technology Division and elected the first council, secretariat and supervisory board. At present, the Digital Science and Technology Division has 30 council members, including Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Jinan University, Baidu AI Cloud Technology (Guangzhou), Guangzhou TOGOGO Network Technology, etc.. As one of the initiators, SCBC is a member and the only chairman member of the first council.
